Do you believe that God genuinely wants His people to be Financially prosperous?
1. the issue of children growing up in this country and teaching adulthood without sound financial knowledge;
2. our belief and value system that sometimes works quietly against our mission in life, hindering us from developing our true potential;
3. an educational system that places the wrong set of values on a college degree that carries little or no substance, and it seems like everyone else profits from a college investment except the person who made the sacrifice;
4. employers who hire people for work but place a salary cap on their income – an ongoing source of frustration for millions of people because while their needs and wants increase, their salaries stay flat;
5. government taxes that intrusively devour between 30 to 60 percent of people’s income, and the remaining portion is barely enough to take care of financial responsibilities in the home;
6. a credit system that makes itself available to everyone who is struggling with a cash problem. At first, the system appears to be friendly, making itself the answer to all financial woes, yet quickly turns its users into indentured servants;
7. and economic system that provides jobs or income yet takes everything back from those who allow it. So while it provides 100 percent income for those with jobs, it takes back 120 percent from them through spending.
I believe God has a plan for our lives and that includes our financial well being. In this blog, I urge you to dig a little deeper than the popular “sowing and reaping”; “name it and claim” methodology that seems to be common place in mainstream Christianity today. God is a God of order and His word should govern the totality of our financial stewardship. Let’s discuss in a spiritual as well as logical manner what we believe God's plan is for our finances. I look forward to your comments!

Oldest Gospel Label Celebrates 30 Years
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 6, 2006
Indianapolis, IN (BlackNews.com) - Tyscot Records, the Indianapolis based company that is recognized by many industry experts as the oldest Black owned gospel recording label in the nation, is celebrating 30 years in business.
Tyscot was established in 1976 as a recording vehicle for a local church choir. The label gained momentum in the 1980’s with artists such as the Rev. Bill Sawyer and the Christian Tabernacle Choir, and Robert Turner and the Silver Hearts.
Dr. Leonard Scott initially operated the company from offices in his dental practice. In 1988 Dr. Scott’s son Bryant took over the day to day operations, becoming general manager.
During the late 80’s and early 90’s, Tyscot experienced tremendous growth and success mostly due to the recordings of a new artist at that time named Rev. John P. Kee. Rev. Kee and his New Life Community Choir climbed the charts with each successive recording to land in the number one position in 1992 with the recording, We Walk By Faith.
The company faced a severe crisis in 1993 when their distributor filed for bankruptcy and left owing the label money that had been generated from the sale of its albums. This meant, in turn, that Tyscot would not be able to pay its artists.
“But each of our artists stayed with us and renewed their contracts even though there was no guarantee they would be compensated,” said Scott. As the 1990’s progressed, Tyscot experienced tremendous success with John P. Kee, whose 1999 release, Not Guilty, sold more than 500,000 copies and gave Tyscot a Gold Record.
Today Tyscot has a roster of artists who boast a national and international following, including Deitrick Haddon and the Voices of Unity, the Rance Allen Group, Rodnie Bryant, Bishop Larry Trotter, the Inner City Mass Choir, Morris Chapman, Bishop Leonard Scott, VaShawn Mitchell , Chris Jones, DeAndre Patterson, Lucinda Moore, Carman, and the Anointed Pace Sisters.
Dr. Scott operates his dentistry practice, Tyscot Recording Company and Rock Community Church out of a near North side office building. He has released a new book, Soaring with Eagles, and a new CD project, Hymns and Church Songs Live from Alabama, to help celebrate the Tyscot 30 year milestone.

HARDEST WORKING WOMAN IN GOSPEL

VICKIE WINANS SCORES BIGGEST GOSPEL DEBUT OF 2006
ACCLAIMED DOUBLE CD “WOMAN TO WOMAN: SONGS OF LIFE”
NABS #1 SPOT ON BILLBOARD'S GOSPEL & CHRISTIAN CHARTS &
HITS HOT 100 POP CHARTS
Gospel legend Vickie Winans’ much anticipated double CD, “Woman to
Woman: Songs of Life” (Verity Records) has just nabbed a position as
the biggest gospel debut of 2006 with over 25,000 in sales its first
week. The singer has recently graced the covers of Jet and Gospel
Today magazines. Steve Jones, a USA Today scribe, recently called her,
"one of gospel’s most dynamic artists," and wrote that the new CD,
"captures Winans at her show-stopping best. For her, life is a song
worth singing.”
A decade in the making, the thirty-three song, double CD features
the Top 5 gospel radio single “It’s Alright.” Winans recently shot 2
new videos on the new urban and gospel radio singles, “Falling in Love” and
“Madly in Love.” Meanwhile, gospel radio is being serviced with the same 2 singles plus
2 additional singles, “Waiting on Jesus,” and the dramatic ballad, “The
Rainbow.”
“I have worked so hard to make this the best project that I have
ever recorded,” Winans says!“ There are live orchestral strings on
every ballad. There are contemporary upbeat songs and traditional
songs; it is just packed with gospel goodness, with a little spice of
comedy! It will definitely minister to all women regardless to what state they
are in. Although, it’s targeted to women, there’s plenty for men to
enjoy in there. Anyone who needs to be inspired, can releate to the
songs on this CD!”
The first half of the groundbreaking project features studio tracks
by leading producers such as Rodney “Newchild” Jerkins; Warren
Campbell; Winans’ platinum-selling son, Mario Winans; Cedric &
Victor Caldwell; and Vickie Winans herself. Kayla Parker, who has
done background vocals for Winans since 1991, creates
mesmerizing background vocal arrangements throughout the project.
Winans co-wrote many of the songs and also has stellar contributions
from Walter & Edwin Hawkins, Angie Winans, Brent Jones, Mario Winans,
Marvin Winans Jr. and others.
The second CD was hosted by Bishop T. D. Jakes and recorded before an
enthusiastic audience of 10,000 at the House of Hope Worship Center
in Chicago. This portion was also produced by Winans and Steven Ford.
Backed by an orchestra, a full choir and a phenomenal rhythm section,
Winans laid down a string of heart-pounding music performances that
ranged from traditional church songs, calypso praise numbers to
tear-jerking ballads.

L. SPENSER & TESTAMENT DEBUT NEW CD “STATEMENT”

Tuscaloosa’s groundbreaking choir, L. Spenser Smith & Testament, will headline at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center , 2100 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. North, Birmingham, AL 35203. Phone: 205-458-8400. Opening will be Blanche McAllister, Tony Gaines & V.I.P. and Greater Movement. All Tickets are Free.
The group will spotlight their sophomore project, Statement: The Assignment Continues (Emtro Records), which debuts nationally on Tuesday, September 26, 2006. From the opening electric guitar pluckings of “The Star Spangled Banner” which segues into the funky foot-stomper “I’m Free” to the ragtimey “You Bring Me Joy” and the jazzy “In Your Presence” to the pseudo-classical closer, “He’ll Come,’ the project buzzes with neo-soul fervor.
The group’s leader, L. Spenser Smith, has been singing since the age of four. After college, he took a gig as a music minister at a church in Jacksonville, FL before taking over his father-in-law’s Tuscaloosa church after his death in 1996. His Greater New Testament Church birthed the Testament Choir and produced their 2004 debut CD The Assignment No. 1 on Emtro Records. It resulted in the radio hits, “What A Friend” and “God Will.”
In spite of his contemporary grooves, it’s no question of the subject matter of Smith’s songs. “I guess it’s the preacher in me,” he continues, “but it bothers me when the Gospel message of a song gets buried behind all the production. Content is what makes a Gospel song Gospel, and it’s very important to me that people hear what our songs are saying lyrically, as well as to feel it musically.”
