Deuteronomy 8:18
18 But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that
giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he
sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.
Most people have heard or read this scripture at some point in
their lifetime and if you are a Christian reading this article I absolutely
know you heard this scripture read to you and you probably can quote it
yourself. In fact, you are probably declaring
it over your life each and every day.
However, when hearing it from either bible study or from the preacher it
is normally quoted with the emphasis on the later part of the verse ….that he may establish his covenant which he
sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day. In other words, it is concluded that yes God
can give you wealth, and yes it is not by your own hands as verse 17 states,
but God himself gives it to you and the reason for this wealth is to establish
his covenant or his kingdom or simply put use the money he gives you to sow
into the things of God. To be candid, I
taught the very same thing for many years too, until the Lord reminded me of
something very important and in this short article I hope to give you the
nuggets that he reminded me of.
First, the problem with how people teach this scripture is placing
the sole emphasis on the second part of the verse…..that he may establish his
covenant which he sware unto thy fathers as it is this. Not because God doesn’t want you to do that,
clearly he does, but the reason it’s a problem we as teachers assumed that most
people understand what wealth is and how to create it. Or in many cases the preachers themselves
don’t know what wealth is or how it is created.
And, neither do most people! So, for decades even centuries we have
heard what to do with the wealth but have not truly been informed as to what it
is and how to create it and the people of God go without. At best, we’ve been told if we tithe and give
into the things of God he will make us wealthy. Which if this by itself was
true then every believer would already be Bill Gates wealthy or better yet,
Solomon wealthy. However the truth of
the matter is this is not the case just look at the congregations around the
country and their neighborhoods. Let find out why people aren’t receiving the
wealth that our Lord and savior died and paid the price for and change this
thing around and fulfill God’s total promise and plan.
Before we go any further I want to define wealth so you the
reader can be on the same page as God and me.
Wealth: a great quantity or store of money, valuable possessions, property, or
other riches:
2. an abundance or profusion of anything; plentiful amount:
3. Economics.
a.
all things that have a monetary or exchange value.
b.
anything that has utility and is capable of being appropriated or
exchanged.
4. rich or valuable contents or produce:
5. the state of being rich; prosperity; affluence:
persons of wealth and standing.
Now, that we have a working understanding of the meaning of
wealth when you hear it taught from any pulpit or university ask yourself if it
lines up with the definition. The reason
this is so important is traditionally when it has been taught from the pulpit
or within the ministry context many try to apply different definitions to the
word such like; well, wealth doesn’t only mean money! I’m wealthy in my health too! When you give
God is not only talking about making you wealth in money but it means other
things too! Most of the time this is
stated because the manifestation of wealth has not shown up in the lives of
their members or the believers at large so they tap dance around it and make up
excuses. Look at the scriptures for
yourself in the life of Abram in Genesis 13:1-2 (kjv) And
Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with
him, into the south.
2 And Abram was very rich in
cattle, in silver, and in gold. You see child of God, Abram
wealth meets the definition!
Now, let’s proceed to the wealth creation formula. It is right here in the scripture but tucked
away unless you have understanding.
Let’s read the first part of the scripture again to get
understanding. Deuteronomy 8:18 But thou shalt
remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get
wealth,….. After reading this
you have to ask yourself what is the power that God is going to give me that
will enable me to manifest wealth in the true meaning of the word? Is this power some super hero type
power? Is it just an anointing? What
kind of power will you need to bring into your possession the manifestation of
wealth in the true meaning? I’m glad you
asked!
So here is the formula for wealth:
Skilled Labor
+ Natural Resources
+ Innovative Ideas
+ Financial Capital
+ Market Economy
= WEALTH CREATION
|
With this formula we can now look back at the Deuteronomy
8:18 and plug in the formula coupled with other scriptures and see exactly what
type of power we receive from God. Now, don’t get me wrong you will need to be
anointed, but the anointing allows us to gain the advantage over others who may
similar skill sets or education, etc. It’s what sets us apart from the world.
Here’s what we know:
1.
We know that God will bless
the works of our hands.
2.
We know that the earth and
the fullness thereof is the Lords.
3.
We know that God will give
us insight, concepts and ideas or witty inventions.
4.
We know that God gives us
seed to sow which produces a harvest that can be sold to produce money. Or if you work you earn a wage and that wage
produces money and thus you have financial capital.
In short, true wealth is created through a mixture of natural
resources, skilled labor, intellectual capital, entrepreneurs and financial
capital in a market economy. It is the later part. the market economy that one
typically will use to realize or extract their wealth in monetary terms; i.e.
by bringing their company public to the stock exchange or selling to a
potential buyer.
