University of Houston-Downtown Presents Terence Blanchard Live: A 50th Anniversary Celebration Concert

 


Houston, TX — The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) proudly presents an unforgettable evening with eight-time Grammy Award-winning trumpeter and Oscar-nominated film composer Terence Blanchard, live for UHD on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the UH Cullen Performance Hall. This extraordinary concert, celebrating UHD's 50th anniversary, promises an immersive journey through film scores, jazz, and beyond, featuring the UH Moores School of Music Symphony Orchestra.

Terence Blanchard, a musical visionary whose influence spans from jazz clubs to Hollywood and even the opera stage, is poised to bring his groundbreaking artistry to Houston audiences. The concert will showcase his eclectic compositions, including iconic works from his long-standing collaboration with director Spike Lee and his operatic masterpieces. As an NEA Jazz Master, Blanchard continues to redefine music across mediums, and his performance at this celebratory concert is highly anticipated.

With recent groundbreaking achievements in opera, such as Fire Shut Up in My Bones and Champion—both of which made history at the Metropolitan Opera—Blanchard's creative voice continues to resonate worldwide.
